Ayurveda exponent Vaidyamadom passes away

Eminent Ayurveda physician Vaidyamadom Cheriaya Narayanan Namboodiri died in a private hospital in Kochi, family sources said here today.
Namboodiri belonged to the Mezhathur family at Pattambi near here, one of the eight traditional Ayurvedic families of Kerala, known as "ashta vaidyas", reputed for centuries as eminent practitioners of the ancient Indian wellness system.
He was 83 and survived by wife and five children.
He was the chief physician of the Vaidyamadom Ayurveda Hospital at Mezhathur.
Namboodiri was honoured with the "Ayur Acharya" award of the Kerala Government in 2009.
Apart from practising Ayurveda, he had also written a number of books on the Indian system of medicine. A literary enthusiast, he had also written several articles and a memoir.
