The state government should finish the process within one or two months and the reservation in Panchayati Raj institutions be done by that time, Azad said while addressing a women's conference at Dayalachak in Kathua district.
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had helped to enact 33 per cent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj implementation to ensure their participation in the development sector.
"But I am sorry to say that Jammu and Kashmir is the only state which has no reservation for women. We had put thrust upon the issue in a party conference held at Srinagar and passed a resolution that the panchayats were not only given powers but reservation was given to women at every level," he said.
He had full faith that the state government shall recommend reservation not only to women but also the weaker sections of society, he said.
At a function in Jammu, Azad also said there were six lakh unemployed youth in the state. (MORE)
