On the eve of Diwali, the much-awaited elevated corridor from Azadpur to Prembari Pul Road will be thrown open for public by Delhi government, a move which will decongest areas like Ashok Vihar, Shalimar Bagh and Wazirpur on Ring Road.
Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will dedicate the corridor tomorrow. The 1.6 km elevated corridor from Prembari Pul to Azadpur will allow unhindered traffic flow along the entire 44-km Ring Road.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, PWD Minister Satyendar Jain and local AAP MLAs will also be present on the occasion.
A senior official said that the elevated corridor will bypass three traffic intersections at Shalimar Bagh, Ashok Vihar and Fire Station on the Ring Road and it is expected to benefit nearly two lakh motorists every day.
A sum of Rs 247 crore was approved for this project and its foundation stone had been laid on 7 June 2013.
The official said that the corridor to be dedicated to people tomorrow was a part of the signal-free corridor from Vikaspuri to Wazirabad, a stretch that will be thronged open for people of Delhi by December 31.
"PWD Minister Satyendar Jain had directed department officials to complete the project (elevated corridor from Azadpur to Prembari Pul) in October. It will be dedicated to Delhiites tomorrow," another senior government official said.
The elevated corridor will reduce traffic congestion on Ring Road at Shalimar Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Pitampura, Wazirpur Industrial Area and Azadpur areas.
