India today termed as "internal matter" the decision by the Bangladesh Supreme Court to give death sentence to fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah for 1971 war crimes.
"This is an internal matter for Bangladesh and for the people of Bangladesh to decide. We do understand that given the horrific crime that was committed.... And taking into account the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people, (they will) try and bring a closure to this by ensuring justice is provided," the Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry said here.
He also said India has full confidence in the judicial system of that country but what the procedural issues are, was for the Bangladeshi people to decide.
He was responding to a query on Mollah, 65, the fourth- highest Jamaat leader being given death sentence by the Bangladesh Supreme Court after it rejected an appeal to acquit him of all charges related to 1971 liberation war against Pakistan.
