The decision was with a view to equip the students to take up jobs outside Kerala and India, Chandy told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
Those who pass B.Ed were now eligible to teach till SSLC level only.
From the next academic year onwards those who pass B.Ed would be eligible to teach in Higher Secondary levels too as per the norms as set by AICTE, he said.
Necessary changes in the curriculum also would be brought up, he said.
On other decision, he said 108 posts have been sanctioned for the functioning of Manjeri Medical College which got approval from Central Medical Council.
The College would start functioning this year. It would give additional 100 medical seats under government quota in the state.
