Senior IAS officer Brij Kumar Agarwal has been appointed as the chief secretary of Himachal Pradesh with immediate effect according to a notification issued here Sunday, an official spokesperson said.
The post of chief secretary fell vacant after retirement of Vineet Chaudhary on Saturday.
The 1985 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre was working as the Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Vigilance) and was also holding additional charges of Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Financial Commissioner (Appeals) and Resident Commissioner, Himachal Bhawan in New Delhi.
Agarwal also held various positions in the Centre and and Himachal Pradesh government.
He had earlier served as the commissioner of tourism, deputy commissioner of Una and Kangra, divisional commissioner of Kangra, principal secretary food and civil supplies and secretary, information technology, to the Himachal Pradesh Government.
Agarwal also served as general manager of Food Corporation of India in Lucknow, and Joint Secretary of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
