Labour rights leader Baba Adhav today met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and discussed the problems of the head-loaders and porters engaged in heavy manual labour.
According to a senior officer, during the meeting held at Delhi Secretariat, Adhav requested Kejriwal to pass a law for the welfare of head-loaders and porters on the lines of the one which is in place for them in Maharashtra.
He also handed a memorandum along with a copy of the said Act to the chief minister.
The memorandum said that the law, once enacted, would help the labourers get insurance, bonus, provident fund, gratuity, education for their children, etc.
Kejriwal assured him that action would be taken soon on the issue and he would discuss how to go about it promptly with the Labour Minister.
The chief minister also enquired about the housing scheme for labourers in Maharashtra and said that he would like to send a team to study welfare schemes for labourers in Pune.
Adhav also raised the issue of ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce and Kejriwal told him that his government would see to it that it is guaranteed in Delhi.
Kejriwal told Adhav that his government is working on giving pension benefits to the poor and ensuring the welfare of the elderly.
