Condemning the BJP on 'Babri Demolition Day' on Thursday, the ruling Trinamool Congress observed 'Sanhati Dibas' across the state urging people to defeat the saffron party in the Lok Sabha elections next year.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bnerjee said India is incomplete without all communities, religions, castes, creed and gender.
"Today is 6th December. We observe this day as Sanhati Dibas in #Bangla. Just like a human body is incomplete without all organs, India is incomplete without all communities, religions, castes, creed and gender. Let us pledge to uphold the secular fabric of India," Banerjee said in a tweet.
Strongly criticizing the BJP for attempting to "divide the country on religious lines", the Trinamool Youth Congress organised two processions in the city's northern and southern parts and urged the people to maintain communal harmony.
While the procession in south Kolkata was organized from Tollygunj Phanri to Hazra crossing, the one in the north was from Hedua to Wellington crossing in which many party leaders and workers participated, police said.
