Badal felicitates teachers

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today honoured two eminent educationists with the state government's maiden 'Lifetime Achievement Award' on Teacher's Day.
In his congratulatory message, he said both Sister Mirabell from Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana and founder Principal Swaran Singh from Baba Aaya Singh Riarki College, Tugalwala in Gurdaspur district would act as beacons and galvanise their fellow teachers to impart value-based education to the students to enable them become ideal citizens of the society.
Badal also congratulated teachers who have been bestowed with prestigious state awards and given appreciation letters for their excellent performance as outstanding teachers.

Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema honoured two academicians with 'Lifetime Achievement Award', 34 teachers with state award, and 33 teachers, education officers and employees with commendation letters.
Sister Mirabell and Swaran Singh were also presented with an amount of Rs one lakh each, a medal, a shawl and a commendation certificate at the state-level function to mark 'Teacher's Day' which was held at CGC Landran here and dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Punjabi Suba.

The state awardees were presented with the increased amount of Rs 25,000 each which earlier stood at Rs 10,000.
The state awardee 34 teachers were also honoured with a medal, shawl and a commendation certificate. These teachers would also get an extension in service for a period of one year. Besides this, another 33 teachers, education officers, employees were awarded a shawl and a commendation certificate.
Cheema while addressing the teachers said the 'Lifetime Achievement' award has been started for the first time to honour those who have devoted their entire life spans to serve the cause of education.
He also exhorted the teaching community to take pledge for making Punjab number one in academic sphere.
He said after infrastructure, now the target is to make Punjab topmost state academically.
