A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a meeting with officials deployed in Uttarakhand for carrying out relief and rescue operations here, a government spokesman said.
The Chief Minister said the department of Disaster Management would soon procure latest equipment such as high lifts, boats and life saving jackets to rescue victims trapped in calamities or disasters like earthquakes, floods and fire.
He asked the department to prepare a comprehensive plan for procurement of state-of-the-art equipment to save lives.
Badal also instructed to immediately initiate effective steps for up-gradation and strengthening of fire brigade services across the state and directed the Local Government Department to procure new fire tenders equipped with latest gadgets.
While sharing their experience in Uttarakhand with the Chief Minister, officials present in the meeting stressed on the need for proper mountaineering training to members of disaster management teams to carry out relief and rescue operations effectively.
