Badal seeks Centre's support to bring back Punjabis from Iraq

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called up the Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj seeking Centre's assistance to bring back Punjabis stranded in Iraq marred by violence.
Seeking prompt intervention by Union Government to bring back Punjabis, the CM said, "the Union Government should make all out efforts for ensuring the safe release of all these Punjabis, thereby saving their precious lives."
Badal said, "it was high time that the Union Government must exploit all the diplomatic channels for bringing back these Punjabis from Iraq."
The CM said, "the state government stand firmly with them in this hour of crisis."
Badal also directed state Deputy Commissioners to keep close liaison with the family members of the people struck in Iraq to update them about latest developments in this regard.
He said the state government told Centre that it would bear the entire expenditure for the safe return of Punjabis.
Meanwhile, Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia has conveyed his solidarity with the distressed families and assured all support to them, several of whom belong to Amritsar, and his own constituency, Majitha.
