Congress today accused Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for showing "fake" sympathy with Sikh farmer in Gujarat.
In a statement issued here, Partap Singh Bajwa, president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) said Badal has failed to pursue Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi to withdraw the SLP filed by his government in the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court order.
Badal had given false hopes to farmers that he would talk to Modi and get them justice, he said adding that, both Badal and his Gujarat counterpart were befooling the farmers.
Questioning the Gujarat government's intention, Bajwa said, if it had no problem with Sikh farmers, then what was stopping them from withdrawing their SLP from Supreme Court.
He said the High Court had upheld the lower court's verdict in favour of 50,000 Sikh farmers' settled in Gujarat since 1965, but the Gujarat government led by Modi had declared these farmers non-agriculturists and asked them to back go to Punjab.
