With the losers of the last qualifying round gaining an extra chance to qualify through double elimination round, Badami grabbed it with both hands after having lost to Abdur Rehman in the third qualifying round earlier.
Also entering the main draw were Rajat Khaneja of Chandigarh and Mundir Sherazi of Karnataka. Khaneja rallied from a 0-3 deficit to surge to a creditable 22-42, 17-28, 30-38, 40-10, 36-9, 41-32, 42-13 win over Nikhil Pise of Karnataka in the most thrilling match of the day.
Sherazi fashioned two back-to-back wins for his resurrection, and was joined by Aman Goel of Haryana and Manjot Singh of Punjab who also registered back-to-back wins in the double elimination round.
In first qualifying round matches, India sub junior No 3 Ishpreet Singh Chadha, Sunil Jain and Yogesh Sharma, all of Maharashtra, Hemant Singh of Andhra Pradesh, K. Venkatesh of Railways and Nitesh Madan of Delhi came through with wins.
