Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has said Bahrain, with its beaches and fine sand, can be a world leader in the art that he invented in India.
"Given the right training, I see potential talent in Bahrain to make a world-mark," he said at a five-day seminar on sand sculpting here.
The 36-year-old Padma Shri awardee said he would be interested in teaching the people of Bahrain so they could further spread the art. The country is at an advantage to have beaches and sand at many places, Pattnaik said.
"Looking at the potential that exists for this art, I am hoping the government will take this seriously and give me an opportunity to open a training institute for furthering it here," Pattnaik was quoted as saying by the Bahrain News Agency.
"If Bahrainis are interested, they could come to Puri and be trained at my institute free of cost," said Pattnaik referring to his Sudarsan Sand Art Institute in his home state Odisha.
He said the schools in Europe encourage creativity and promote sand sculpture at a very initial stage.
In 2013, Pattnaik won the Moscow museum prize at the Moscow world sand art championship as also the Danish grand prize at the second Copenhagen international sand sculpture championship.
The Limca book of records included him among the people of the year in 2009 and in 2007.
