Reiterating the government's commitment to effectively implement welfare measures, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said providing 10 kgs of rice at a subsidised rate every month to APL families was a step towards providing food security to people.

He also said the state government would provide three additional subsidised LPG cylinders per family apart from the six cylinders approved by the Centre.

Talking to reporters for the first time after the Tehri Lok Sabha bypoll in which the ruling Congress suffered defeat at the hands of the BJP, Bahuguna said Rs 100 crore would be spent on reconstruction of 16 bridges damaged by cloudbursts and landslides in Uttarkahshi district.

Half of the amount would come from the Centre and the rest would be spent out of the disaster relief fund, he said.

All steps had been taken to make relief material available to people and tone up connectivity in the natural calamity-hit areas of the state, the Chief Minister said.

Altogether 233 affected villages in the state needed to be rehabilitated out of which 90 had been identified as extremely vulnerable, he said.
