Bahuguna voluntarily gave up vehicles, staff members and police guards at his disposal as a former chief minister yesterday, official sources said here today.
However, he continues to occupy his official residence in the city, they said.
Bahuguna took the initiative just a day after the state Cabinet decided to cut down on facilities given to former chief ministers and revert to the 1997 set of rules as followed in undivided Uttar Pradesh.
Bahuguna is the first former chief minister of Uttarakhand to relinquish such facilities in the light of the latest Cabinet decision. Rest of the former chief ministers, mostly from BJP, are yet to follow suit.
Other former chief ministers who are still enjoying a number of facilities provided by the state government include Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.
