"The state government will soon take up with the Centre the issue of continued supply of power generated by hydro-electricity projects based in Uttarakhand to Himachal Pradesh despite its self-sufficiency in the sector," Bahuguna said.

Himachal Pradesh is now a power surplus state whereas Uttarakhand doesn't produce enough power even for its own requirements, he said.

"Still, under the arrangement that took place between erstwhile undivided Uttar Pradesh and Himachal, a substantial amount of power generated from plants based in Uttarakhand continue to be supplied to Himachal," Bahuguna said.

"We will soon seek the Centre's intervention to stop this practise. For the past five years power production in Uttarakhand has not increased whereas there has been an increase of 10 per cent in the demand for power across the state," he said.

New power projects will be launched and the closed ones will be revived to meet the state's own electricity needs, he said.
