Jharkhand High Court today granted bail to the mother of Ranjeet Kumar Kohli alias Rakibul Hassan in connection with deceit, torture and exploitation charges filed by national-level shooter Tara Shahdeo after she walked out of the marriage last year.
The bench of Justice D N Upadhay granted the bail of nearly 80-year-old Koushalaya on the ground of old age, ailment and not being linked directly in the case involving her son.
She and her son were arrested in New Delhi on August 26 last year.
Kohli, now in judicial custody, is facing charges that he had made Shahdeo keep secret under duress after she learnt about his faith in Islam barely a month after their marriage.
Shahdeo also accused them of deceit, exploitation and torture. In their statement on August 26 last year, the police had said that Shahdeo married Kohli with her consent on July 7 last year and that Kohli started believing Islam.
Shahdeo alleged in her FIR that she came to know about her husband's faith only after her marriage and that she was able to SMS to her family on August 19 when she got a chance to text after being taken to Delhi that led to her rescue.
On August 29, the then chief minister Hemant Soren had said his government would recommend for a CBI probe into the case.
