The Madras High Court bench today dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of beach mineral sand baron S Vaikundarajan and his brother Jagadeesan who apprehended arrest by CBI in a wealth case against former chairman of the VOC Port Trust in Tuticorin.
Justice G.Chockalingam concurred with the argument of CBI counsel who opposed their bail pleas.
Opposing the anticipatory bail petitions filed by the two brothers in a corruption case registered against the former Port Trust Chairman, CBI had on Thursday last submitted that their custodial interrogation was essential in the case.
During hearing of the bail plea, Assistant Solicitor General G R Swaminathan submitted that there are reasons to believe that the petitioners had entered into a sham land deal with the mother of the accused to transfer huge sums of money.
He pointed out that the signature of Vaikundarajan in the sale document was different from the specimen signature in his bank savings account.
The ASG also argued that the price paid for the property, located in a dry rural region, was extremely high and the amount paid was nothing but bribe.
Besides, though the money was said to be an advance for the land, Subiah's brother went on buying properties with the advance amount, giving the impression that the money was not an advance.
