A part of the busy Jawaharlala Nehru Road commonly known as Bailey Road here caved in due to heavy rains, officials said today.

Around 30 feet stretch of the road caved in last night between Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) building and IPS Mess Association building due to heavy rains, they said.

Patna received heavy rainfall yesterday with many areas waterlogged.

Bailey road, is considered as lifeline of the Bihar capital as it connects Income Tax in east and to Saguna Mor in west.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar along with Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav and senior officials inspected the spot damaged by heavy rains today and gave necessary directives to the officials in this connection.

"The entire incident (damage to the road), which was caused by rain last night, will be reviewed. The department will work to restore the road. The damage may not have been caused by the water logging alone on roadside. I have also asked the officials to check about its ground water level," Kumar said in a release here.

The incident has alerted everyone, he said adding that this is a very old road and such thing was never witnessed in past despite heavy rains.

The Metro rail will be constructed on this stretch and it will be underground at this place (where flyover is being built), the CM said and added that "we will get it thoroughly studied with the help of experts of Lohia Path Chakra and metro rail project so that such an incident is not repeated in the future."
