Baisakhi, heralding commencement of wheat harvesting, was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour across Kangra district today with thousands of people taking a holy dip in the Beas River.
People thronged Kaleshwar temple in Dehra to take dip in the holy "Panjtirthi Tank" and Beas River and paid obeisance at the 500-year-old Shiva temple.
As the legend goes, the temple was built by the Pandvas with the help of Vihva Karma during their exile. But the construction of the temple was hampered as Pandavs were required tto remain in hiding during the day time and not seen or identified by anyone and later the temple was contructed by the king of Katoch dynasty. The place is considered as sacred as Haridwar and the people, who are unable to visit Haridwar, immerse the mortal remains of their relatives, in the sacred water of this place.
The devi shrines of Jwalamukhi, Chintpurni, Brajeshwari, Srinaina Devi, Chamunda, Bhimakali and other places of worship are being thronged by thousands of devotees due to Navratras and elaborate security arrangements have been made.
