Judicial proceedings before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the Tarn Taran girl assault case show that the government and its police chief have little trust in their own state police when it comes to providing security, Punjab Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa today said.
"Reports categorically assert that the Punjab government and the top brass of Punjab police do not depend on their own men for security purposes and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his family, other cabinet ministers and even the state's DGP are among those who are provided with security cover of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)," he said here.
By doing so, they have made it clear that their lives are more precious than people's, he said alleging that the state government is only interested in fortifying its own defenses, leaving people in the lurch.
"It reflects a complete dichotomy between words and actions of the government," he said.
Bajwa demanded immediate resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for allegedly having no faith in the state police and added his actions prove beyond doubt that he is incapable of performing the Constitutional duty of protecting people.
