As normality in drinking water supply has been restored after heavy rainfall in Dakshina Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has withdrawn all ban orders on drawing water from the Nethravati river issued earlier, an official release here said today.
The order enables industries like Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) and Mangalore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to draw water from AMR power dam built across the Nethravati at Shambhoor in Bantwal taluk.
The MRPL lifted six million gallons a day (MGD) and industries under SEZ lifted eight MGD from the Shambhoor dam, official sources said.
The water level in Thumbe dam had hit all time low over the last few weeks.
With the aim of supplying adequate drinking water to the people of the district, the authorities had imposed ban on large scale industries in the area from using water from river Nethravati.
Water sufficient to pump adequate water to the city for about 15 days was now available from the dam, the release said.
