Bandh affects life in Jharkhand

Normal life was partially affected in Jharkhand today because of the dawn to dusk statewide bandh called by Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (Prajatantrik) and CPI, and supported by other opposition parties, in protest against the Land Acquisition Bill.
There was no report of any untoward incident, police said.
The bandh evoked good response in Ranchi, where majority of shops, business establishments and schools were closed and traffic was thin.
However, a Jamshedpur report said, normal life in the steel city and its surrounding areas remained unaffected, barring sporadic incidents of smashing of glass panes of some vehicles in Mango and Sakchi areas here, they said.

Prem Ranjan, SDO, Dalbhum in East Singhbhum said adequate security arrangements had been made during the bandh.
Shops, markets and petrol pumps downed their shutters but the road traffic remained normal in Jamshedpur. Educational institutions were also opened.

However, commercial vehicles and long distance buses were off the road with a few auto rickshaws and other vehicles were plying in the rural pockets like Ghatsila and Bahragora under Ghatsila sub-division.
Railway sources said train services was normal.
Prominent political leaders including the JVM Central Committee Secretary Abhay Singh and East Singhbhum district committee president Firoz Khan were taken into custody as a precautionary measure in the wee hours, JVM spokesman C H Rammurthy said.

Over 300 bandh supporters were rounded up from across Kolhan region including 298 from the steel city of Jamshedpur for enforcing the bandh.
A report from West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan said the bandh evoked mixed response with no untoward incident taking place during the bandh.
