"The bandh went off peacefully without any untoward incident reported from anywhere," a senior city police officer said.
He said over 50 persons, including Bajrang Dal leader Mans Pani and former MP and Utkal Bharat leader Kharavela Swain, were taken into preventive custody from separate places and later released.
Shops and business establishments downed their shutters in prominent markets of the city and traffic on the National Highway was severely affected as BJP workers blocked it at Tangi, about 25 km from here.
Led by Bajrang Dal, activists of Utkal Bharat, Viswa Go-surakhya Vahini, Hind Jagaran Samukhya, Kalinga Sena, Shiv Sena, RSS and ABVP had given the bandh call demanding that the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) change its decision to conduct the matches here featuring Pakistan players.
