The farmers have called the bandh accusing the state government of following a flawed paddy procurement policy.
Several associations and organisations supported the Bandh observed from 6 am to 2 pm during which business establishments throughout the district remained closed and vehicular movement disrupted.
Describing the procurement policy of the government as faulty, the farmers are demanding opening of more procurement centres (mandis) in the district for procurement of paddy from cultivators and speedy payment to them.
They demanded that the government should increase the procurement quantity to 18 quintal instead of 12 in non-irrigated lands and 20 quintal instead of 18 in irrigated farm lands.
