Normal life came to a halt in the entire Garo Hills region today due to a bandh call given by the break-away faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council militants, the ANVC-B, calling for central probe into Chief Minister Mukul Sangma's "secret shoot at sight orders".
The ANVC-B is one of the nearly a dozen militant outfits operating in the five districts of the region.
"The bandh has been total and peaceful. No incident was reported from anywhere in the region though there was 20 per cent attendance in government offices," said Pravin Bakshi, the deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills district.
The ANVC-B went hammer and tongs against the chief minister since the arrest of around two dozen of its cadres in connection with killing of migrant labourers from Assam.
