Banerjee asks for quick resolution of court cases

Mamata Banerjee today said that 30,000 cases of different departments are pending in the courts and asked that they are resolved quickly as the government has to bear huge recurring expenses for them.
"There are at least 30,000 cases of different departments of the state government pending in the courts. Departments have been asked to look into them.
"The government has to bearing huge recurring expenses and the respective departments face problems if the cases are not solved. We want that the cases are solved quickly," she told newsmen after an administrative meeting at the secretariat.
The secretariat sources said that during the meeting Banerjee pulled up several departments like law, MSME, food processing, child and women welfare for their "poor" performances.
"The chief minister has instructed the principal secretaries to hold review meetings with other secretaries every week," he stated.
District magistrates of Coochbehar, Alipurduar, South 24 Parganas, West Midnapore, Jhargram and Purulia were also upbraided by Banerjee for failing to give a push to the state's flagship programmes, he said..

Banerjee said that detailed discussions were held on various issues, including the recent flood in 11 districts of the state in today's meeting.
"There has been a detailed review discussion on file tracking system, management system, financial management system, discipline of doing business, sports, agriculture and also on the recent flood-situation in the state," Banerjee said.
Issues like dengue, malaria, swine flu, encephalitis and also ICDS and mid-day meal were also discussed during the meeting, she said.
Before the meeting, the chief minister inaugurated a 12,874 sq-ft 900-seat conference hall with wifi connectivity to host meetings.
