Acting on a tip off, BSF personnel along with Customs and state police stopped the truck this morning at Ushabazar village and recovered 9,300 bottles of a particular brand of cough syrup hidden under sacks of cement.
This brand of syrup is widely used by drug addicts in the North East and Bangladesh.
"We have seized 9,300 bottles of of cough syrup in a truck of cement. The consignment was meant for Bangladesh," said Customs Inspector Sraban Sourav.
Four northeastern states - Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam - share a 1,880-km long border with Bangladesh, a portion of which is unfenced and running through dense forests, making it porous and vulnerable.
This is the second big seizure in a week's time.
On last Thursday, two trucks loaded with 65,700 bottles of the same brand of syrup were seized at Moloyagar, near here, custom officials said.
