Bangladesh's national cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife have been accused of beating and torturing their 11-year-old maid, police said today as they sought to arrest the couple.
Police said they have raided the house of Shahadat last night, but did not find him there.
"A girl has complained to us of being tortured by national cricketer Sahadat Hossain and his wife," a police official said.
The minor complained of sickness after being rescued.
"She got her complaints recorded as we saw injury marks on her body and then sent her to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately," he said.
Shahadat had also filed a complaint with the Mirpur police yesterday that the maid had gone missing.
A pace bowler, the 29-year-old cricketer has played 38 Tests and 51 One-Day Internationals for Bangladesh.
He lives at Mirpur-2, adjacent to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
