Bangladesh today said it is keen to implement Zero Liquid Discharge system in effluent treatment plants in another four years in their country.
Faruque Hassan, chairman of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters' Association said that since there are only individual treatment plants in their country, the government has roped in the Institute for Industrial Policy, a US-Based NGO to advise and implement this system.
Hassan, who headed a delegation which visited nearby Tirupur, the knitwear hub of India, in a release lauded the efforts taken by the town to implement ZLD and said they had not seen this type of system anywhere in the world, where salt and water are recovered simultaneously.
He also praised the online monitoring system installed by the Pollution Control Board.
After holding discussions with Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) on the garment export scenario in Bangladesh, he said exports from his nation formed only five per cent of the global market share.
India and Bangladesh can complement each other in the business, as the raw materials and semi-finished items like acrylic fabric are exported from India, he said.
As Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company of Chennai has helped Tirupur CETPs to implement ZLD, the Institute had approached them and they would sign an agreement for implementation of ZLD, TEA president Shaktivel said.
Seeking the help of TEA for implementation of ZLD, the delegation also invited exporters to visit Bangladesh, Shaktivel added.
