The team, led by Bangladesh External Affairs Publicity Wing Deputy Director Mohhamad Zashimuddin and comprises ten journalists, are on a six-day trip to study the project that has generated controversy in Bangladesh, official sources said.
The team is visiting Tipaimukh dam site at the invitation of the Centre and will proceed to the site by helicopter later in the day, the sources said.
Before arriving here, the Bangladesh team had visited New Delhi and met Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Water Resources Secretary Dhruv Vijay Singh and were briefed about the project.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the main opposition in that country, has been protesting against the 1,500 MW project.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia had earlier suggested that since Barak river flows from India to Bangladesh, the two countries should share and disseminate the findings of a joint survey and decide on the project through discussions.
