Bangladesh War fame lyricist Gobinda Haldar dies at 84

Noted lyricist Gobinda Haldar, known for composing inspirational songs during the Bangladesh Liberation war, died at a city hospital today.
Haldar was 84 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
"My father had been suffering from age old ailments and kidney problems. He passed away this morning," Haldar's daughter Gopa said.
Born in 1930, Haldar is known for composing scores of patriotic songs like "Mora Ekti Phulke Bachabo Bole Juddho Kori", "Ek Sagor Rokter Binimoye Banglar Swadhinata Anlo Jara", "Purbo Digonte Surjo Uthechhe Rokto Lal" and "Padma Meghna Jamuna Tomar Amar Thikana", during the Bangladesh Liberation war.
The song "Ek Sagor Rokter Binimoye" has inspired millions of youths during the liberation war and was a signature tune of Bangladesh TV in the 1990s.

His compositions were considered to be one of the several ways which helped the toiling masses of Bangladesh, then East Pakistan, overcome their trauma and agony.
Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid has paid a visit to ailing Haldar in the hospital in December last year during his visit to Kolkata.
