According to Tourism Ministry data, the total number of foreign tourists touched 5.40 lakh in April this year as compared to 5.37 lakh during the same period in 2014, a growth of 0.5 per cent.
Foreign exchange earnings from tourism during April were Rs 9,438 crore as compared to Rs 8,645 crore in April 2014, an increase of 9.2 per cent.
The percentage share of foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) in India during April 2015 among the top source countries was highest from Bangladesh (15.66 per cent), followed by USA (12.55 per cent), United Kingdom (10.32 per cent) and Sri Lanka (3.99 per cent).
These top 15 countries account for 70.63 per cent of total FTAs during April 2015.
The total number of foreign tourist arrivals during January-April, 2015 were 28.21 lakh as against 27.47 lakh in January-April 2014, an increase of 2.7 per cent.
