Banned currency to be accepted at coop societies, milk booths

: Consumer cooperative societies, milk booths, petrol and dieselsales outlets of public sector Oil Marketing Companies and government hospitals will accept the banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 till midnight of November 24.
A release from the Secretary to Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department here S Sundaravadivelou said these currency notes were declared not valid legal tender from midnight of November 8.
But to enable consumers carry on their transactions, government has directed the milk booths and petrol and diesel bunks and also pharmacies and companies dealing in cooking gas cylinders to accept the currencies till Nov 24 midnight.
The release said payment of fees, taxes, charges and penalty to government or local bodies and also remittances for settlement of water and power billsand also at railway ticket counters and bus terminals can also be made till the deadline with the banned currency notes.
