Bar Assn suspends advocate for making defamatory statements
Press Trust of India Madurai The Madurai branch of the Madras High Court Bar Association today suspended its member W Peter Ramesh Kumar for making allegedly defamatory statements against some judges and women lawyers through his Facebook, You Tube and WhatsApp.
In a statement, the president of the Association M Subash Babu said Peter's remarks were "baseless, imaginary, scandalousand are being postedwilfully and wantonly in the social medias with the sole intention oftarnishing the image of the judges, women lawyers and their family members and the judiciary itself in public."
The suspension of the lawyer would continue till the disciplinary proceedings against him in another case, pending with the Bar Counil, are completed.
The Madras High Court bench here had already initiated suo motu criminal contempt of court proceedings against Peter Ramesh Kumar, former president of the Madurai unit of the High Court Advocates Association, for allegedly disrupting the court proceedings on September 16 last year and challenging the court "to take action against him if the court had guts.
