Barley prices strengthened by 2.45 per cent to Rs 1,399 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators raised their bets, tracking a firming trend at the spot markets.
Marketmen said strong demand from cattle-feed and beer makers at the spot markets coupled with tight supplies mainly led to the rise in prices here at futures trade.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in far-month April contracts surged by Rs 33.50, or 2.45 per cent to Rs 1,399 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,330 lots.
On similar lines, most-active delivery in January contracts rose by Rs 15.50, or 1.09 per cent to Rs 1,439 per quintal, having an open interest of 5,800 lots.
