Barley prices spurted by Rs 26.50 to Rs 1,342 per quintal in futures trading today as participants engaged in raising their positions, driven by a firm trend at the physical markets on strong demand.
The rise in barley prices in futures market to raising of bets by participants, tracking a firm trend at the spot markets on the back of seasonal demand from beer makers and other consuming industries amid paucity of stocks, marketmen said.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, barley for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 26.50 or 2.01 per cent to Rs 1,342 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 760 lots.
Likewise, barley for delivery in May rose Rs 21 or 1.57 per cent to Rs 1,354.50 per quintal, open interest stood at 4,460 lots.
