At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, barley for delivery in June contracts climbed Rs 31.50 or 2.00 per cent to Rs 1,608 per quintal with an open interest of 11,690 lots.
Similarly, barley for delivery in July was trading higher by Rs 32 or 1.99 per cent to Rs 1,637 per quinal with a business turnover of 5,490 open lots.
Marketmen attributed hefty rise in barley prices at futures trade to building up of positions by participants, driven by a firm trend at the spot markets on rising demand amid thin supplies from growing belts.
