Chris Lynn's stupendous catch may have unanimously caught the fancy of one and all in Kolkata Knight Rider's two-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore but coach Trevor Bayliss credited psychologist Mike Horn for the teams turnaround in the IPL match.
Coming at the back of two successive losses, KKR came from behind to edge out RCB in the final over of the match and Bayliss said that Horn's pep talk gave the players confidence to get past the star-studded RCB.
"We had Horn with us before the competition started and one of the things that he spoke about is to always give yourself a chance. He has spoken about that in the last couple of years and it worked out very well for us today," Bayliss was reported saying on the Gulf News website.
Horn, a South Africa-born Swiss explorer and adventurer, uses his experiences to motivate sportsmen, and in 2011 it was his pep talk to the Indian team that helped them become world champions.
"Horn knows about all types of cricket and that it is a funny game where you never know what is going to happen and what is around the corner, and tonight it went our way," added Bayliss.
Kolkata medium-pacer R Vinay Kumar stopped Bangalore from getting nine runs in the final over while Australian youngster Lynn, after a breezy 45, caught a blinder at the boundary to send AB de Villiers packing.
Bayliss, who has coached the Australian national team, boasts of spotting Lynn in the Big Bash and bringing the 24-year-old on board the KKR bus.
"What we saw tonight was only a little bit of what he produced in the Big Bash this year. He had an unbelievable season with the Brisbane Heat team this year. He hits to most areas of the ground and can hit the ball as big as anyone that I have seen. We have also seen he is a fantastic fielder as well," said Bayliss.
