Hearing a PIL filed by advocate G R Mohan, the division bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen also directed the BBMP to nominate an executive authority to effectively manage garbage disposal and appoint personnel (either BBMP inspectors or engineers) to check the disposal of garbage.
The court also directed the government to find ways and means for setting up a waste-disposal plant by clearing the applications which have been filed by various private firms in this regard.
The court directed that segregation of garbage should be done at each doorstep and if it is not done, a fine of Rs 100 should be imposed on such a household.
The court during the last hearing of the PIL on August 27 had ordered issue of notices to the government and the BBMP directing them to submit a report on the prevailing situation regarding disposal of waste in the city within three days.
