Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today cautioned the people of the state to be vigilant against "forces" trying to "destroy" the very concept of 'aikya keralam' (united Kerala), which stands beyond the realm of caste and religious divides.
In his message on the eve of the state's 60th formation day, Vijayan, who is heading the CPI(M)-led LDF government, said "certain forces" were trying to destroy the concept of united Kerala and the "progressive achievements made by the state in social sector".
"We have to stand united to ensure that such forces do not succeed and also to preserve and protect Aikya Keralam concept," he said.
The state should also move forward with one mind to project this concept as a model to the nation as a peoples alternative, the Chief Minister said.
Vijayan said the CPI(M)-led LDF government has chalked out various development programmes to mark the occasion.
Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam also wished the people of the state on the occasion.
"On this diamond jubilee year of the birth of our state, I convey my heartiest wishes to the people of Kerala and Malayalees all over the world and share their pride on the rise of Kerala as one of the most literate and advanced societies of the nation," he said.
