Gogoi today conducted a day-long inspection of various sites in Guwahati and pulled up officials regarding violation of munici pal rules and illegalities in construction activities.
"Guwahati has to be developed but we cannot allow development to happen in an unplanned manner. Citizens should not hesitate to approach the authority and point out illegalities. Only then can we tak steps," he told reporters accompanying him during the visit.
The Chief Minister inspected Udalbakra, Gorchuk, the old central jail and the other spots in Guwahatai and its environs.
He ordered an inquiry into alleged illegal constructions in Udalbakra and into incidents of cutting of hills in the city.
"We have to understand that the condition of soil in Assam is not very strong. Rampant felling of trees has led to serious man-animal conflicts even in Guwahati. Violation of municipal norms has led to this situation," Gogoi said.
