Bear has sumptuous dinner inside parked van

A bear damaged the windscreen and seats of a parked van outside a house near Kothagiri, to have a 'sumptuous dinner' of rice and flour kept inside the vehicle, police today said.
The owner had parked the vehicle outside the house at Kattebettu, some 30 km from here last night with rice bags, wheat flour and other provisions, to be given to a customer today, they said.
Hearing some peculiar sound near the vehicle, the driver, Chandran noticed a bear breaking the windscreen and also rear seat window. After entering, it consumed rice and flour and left after some time, police said.

Forest officials are keeping vigil in the area on complaints from residents on bears straying into the area. They have advised them not to venture out in the night, following the movement of bears.
