Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today visited Pondicherry University near here and found to her consternation lack of adequate infrastructures in the premises for harvesting rain water.

Bedi, who travelled in a government bus along with officials of various departments held talks with the authorities of the University and directed them to construct the rain water harvesting (RWH) structure in all its buildings, an official release said.

She had been visiting rural and semi urban areas every week end to address the woes of the people and assess implementation of schemes.

"The University is not seized of imperativeness of rain water harvesting and no systems were in place for roof top rain water harvesting, run off rain water, treatment and recycling of waste water in the campus," it said.

Bedi also asked the University to expedite implementation of the guidelines in the 'Comprehensive Green Protocol' to which the University is a signatory for conservation and utilisation of rain water, it added.

Later, the former IPS officer who visited the Pondicherry Engineering College said the institution situated on an extent of 185 acre site also had large scope for harvesting rain water.
