Bedi directs officials to protect backwater in Ariyankuppam

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today directed the officials concerned to take steps to protect the backwater in neighbouring Ariyankuppam from contamination by discharge of sewage.
A release from the Lt Governor's office said, during her visit to the boat house on the banks of Chunnambar in Ariyankuppam, the Lt Governor inspected the existing facilities and the progress of work for upgradation of infrastructure.
Bedi then issued instructions that the back water should be protected and no discharge of sewage be allowed.
She also asked the officials to clean up the sandy beaches using machines on a regular basis, the release said.

Besides, Bedi suggested that a "shore festival" be held next year with activities including marathon and walkathon along the coast to promote beach tourism in Puducherry.
