Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today directed the officials to constitute a tripartite committee comprising representatives of PWD, local legislator and members of Farmers Associations to maintain the sprawling lake in Bahoor to ensure that farmers continued to get benefit of the water body without hiccups.
Making an inspection of the current status of the lake and after listening to the grievances of farmers in Bahoor, the Lt Governor ordered the PWD officials to form the committee.
She also said there should be nogrant of leasing right for fishing in the lake and said steps should also be taken to ensure that the bed dams were maintained properly.
Bedi had been on field visits every Saturday and Sunday to know of the plight of the residents, farmers and others in getting basic amenities.
She said that there should be no involvement of private contractors to maintain the lake.
The Bahoor lake, one of the few major water bodies, here is getting water from the upper catchment areas of Tamil Nadu in the Then Pennayar river.
She later visited the Moorthikuppam coastal village and local fishermen urged that the construction of fishing harbour now kept in abeyance should be resumed.
She said that a committee would be formed and very soon necessary steps would be taken to look into the fishermen's pleas.
