Appalled by the sight of unclean environs in the Electricity department's main office here during her visit, Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today got a part of the mess cleared with the help of the staff and directed them to ensure that the premises was kept tidy.
She noticed indiscriminate dumping of power equipment and disorderly manner in which files and other materials were lying strewn in the premises, including at the entrance.
Bedi launched an immediate cleanliness drive with the help of the office staff and got the main part of the entrance cleared of the garbage and other junk materials.
Accompanied by officials of the department, the former IPS officer visited every section and found to her dismay the 'lack of regular preservation' of files.
She asked the officials to ensure that the office was rid of the 'unclean' environs.
Later speaking to reporters, the Lt Governor said she would visit other government departments soon to ensure that their premises presented clean environs.
