Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered lodging of an FIR against a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Chief Engineer in case the official failed to commence construction work on the Reasi-Mahore road by September 26.
Reasi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Shahid Iqbal today ordered registration of the complaint against Chief Engineer UC Mehta at Reasi Police Station if BRO fails to take up the said work by September 26.
The roads agency is also to submit a final report on the Katra-Reasi stretch, district officials said.
Authorities also directed Mehta to deposit Rs 45 crore due as compensation for land acquired for construction of a road or to show cause as to why the money should not be recovered under criminal proceedings, they said.
The amount has to be paid for the land and utilities in respect of which the acquisition proceedings have started.
The action was necessitated after complete failure by BRO to begin work on the project even after the shifting of utilities well in time by the government departments amid protests by people in the Reasi and Katra belts.
