Begun efforts to reconstitute NBWL: Govt

The government today said that it has initiated action for reconstitution of National Board for Wildlife (NBWL).
Minister of State for Environment Prakash Javadekar in a written reply to Rajya Sabha said that that the term of office of members of NBWL other than those who are ex-officio members ended on September 4, 2013.
"Accordingly, the ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has initiated action for reconstitution of NBWL," Javadekar said.
He said that a total of 233 matters were pending for clearance of NBWL since last one year.
While 72 matters were pending regarding proposals considered during previous meetings for decision by the NBWL standing committee, 43 fresh proposals falling within protected areas were also pending.
He said that 56 matters regarding fresh proposals falling with 10 kms from protected areas are pending, 62 matters pertaining to incomplete proposals are also pending, the House was told.
